Aion 2 Abyss guide: Reshanta, Abyss Points and Artifact Sieges
NCSOFT / AION 2 official Steam screenshots
TL;DR
- The Abyss is the always-on PvP zone. On global it starts with one map, Chaotic Lower Reshanta, and its camps need item level 1,000.
- Time inside is limited. Anders and TheWhelps put the free allowance at 7 hours a week, and a Lower Abyss Rift Stone adds 1 hour.
- Go even if you only play PvE. The Abyss command scrolls pay Abyss Points, and Abyss Points buy Stigma Shards.
- Show up for Artifact Sieges. Each artifact your faction holds raises Abyss Point gain and opens an Abyss Corridor run for the faction.
What the Abyss is
The Abyss is where Elyos and Asmodians meet. Unlike the Quest: Spacetime Rift, which has a PvP flag you choose, the Abyss has no toggle: anyone from the other side can attack you. Anders calls it more of a PvX zone, because most reasons to go there are PvE.
Global opens with one Abyss map, Chaotic Lower Reshanta. The map's two faction camps, Latesran Western Root and Latesran Eastern Root, need item level 1,000 to enter. Beyond them lie the fighting zones: Devastated Remnants, Black Fragments Area, Sulfur Tree Island, Archipelago of Siel's Wings and Reshanta's Root. The game data also lists an Artifact Siege for Chaotic Middle Reshanta, but Anders says global launches with Lower Reshanta only.
The weekly time limit
| Abyss time | Hours |
|---|---|
| Free allowance (Anders, TheWhelps) | 7 a week |
| Each Lower Abyss Rift Stone | 1 more |
| TheWhelps's play to near his weekly Abyss Point limit | 3 to 4 a week |
In Korea the membership raises the allowance to 14 hours, and Anders notes that global has not confirmed the same benefit. The Rift Stone is tradable, and the game lists it as loot from Abyss monsters in Devastated Remnants and the Black Fragments Area. TheWhelps says only the top-ranked PvP players really need to buy hours.
Earning Abyss Points
Abyss Points are the Abyss currency. You cannot trade them.
| Source | How it pays |
|---|---|
| Abyss command scrolls | Up to 20 a week from the Abyss command merchant (Grobs). A Black Fragments scroll pays 1,000 Abyss Points and 400 Abyssal Power Shards, with a chance at more Abyss Points, Enhance Stones and Soul Crystals |
| Season missions | Abyss weekly missions for defeating other players (Anders) |
| Field bosses | Like overworld ones, but the other faction wants them too. The highest-damage party gets the most |
| Artifact Sieges and the Abyss Corridor | See below |
| Outside the Abyss | Arena and Battlefield matches, and mostly supply requests (Grobs) |
Command scrolls work like overworld duty quests, but the targets are Abyss monsters.
Plan your scroll route. Anders suggests picking zones close to your base, or grouping several scrolls in one area, if you are alone or want to avoid fights.
Creator tip
PvP is optional in this game, but I recommend you at least run your weekly command scrolls from the abyss because even as a PvE player, you still want those abyss points for your stigma skills.
Artifact Sieges and the Abyss Corridor
Artifact Sieges are the large faction battles. Both sides try to destroy an artifact boss before the other faction does, and the winner holds that artifact until the next siege. The game data records three artifacts in Chaotic Lower Reshanta. Holding them raises your faction's Abyss Point gain:
| Artifacts held | Abyss Point gain |
|---|---|
| 1 | +2.5% |
| 2 | +5% |
| 3 | +7.5% |
Each artifact won also opens an Abyss Corridor for the winning faction. Inside, monsters surround you and you have about two minutes to kill as many as you can for Abyss Points and Kina. Anders and TheWhelps time it at 2 minutes 10 seconds. Grobs explains that a faction holding two artifacts gets two Corridor runs until the next siege, and that alts can run them too.
Siege days and times are set per region. Check the Corpus timers for the current schedule rather than the Korean times quoted in older videos.
Creator tip
So, even if you don't care much for PvP, showing up for the artifact siege helps your whole faction get more out of the abyss.
What to buy with Abyss Points
The Abyss Trade Shop sells growth items for Abyss Points. Prices climb as you buy more of the same item:
| Item | Abyss Points | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Stigma Shard (Bound) | 10,000, then 15,000, 20,000 and 25,000 | 50 per price step, per character |
| Daevanion Crystal: Azphel (Bound) | 10,000, then 20,000, 40,000 and 80,000 | 20 at the first price, 30 at each later one |
| Potential Stone: Abyss (Unique) (Bound) | 25,000, then 50,000, 75,000 and 100,000 | Weekly, shared across the account on a server |
| Silver Medal of Merit | 10,000 | 10 a week per character, needs Abyss Class Rank 18 |
| Lesser Abyssal Manastone (Bound) | 1,000 | 50 a week per character |
Stigma Shards come first for most players. Each one grants a Stigma Shard Point, which levels your stigma skills. The same shop also sells the Guardian Decanus and Centurion appearance sets, and the Centurion pieces also cost Silver Medals of Merit.
Abyss Point purchases
Abyss ranks
Abyss rankings run by season and unlock at level 45. The Season 1 titles climb in this order:
- Ninth-Class Soldier through First-Class Soldier
- 1-Star to 5-Star Officer
- General
- Marshal
- Commander
- Supreme Commander
TheWhelps notes that high-ranked players also hunt in the Spacetime Rift, and that defeating them is worth a lot of Abyss Points. A group that defends together can take them down.
