Aion 2 Templar PvE build: skill priority, stigmas and macro
NCSOFT / AION 2 official Steam screenshots
TL;DR
- This is a starting build. The only Templar-specific guide we found covers skills and the leveling macro, not a finished endgame setup.
- Rank Pummel first while leveling, then push Judgment as high as you can. Judgment's cooldown removal opens at rank 16.
- Most other actives can stay at rank 12, where they have two specialty slots.
- Stigmas: Doom Shield in every build, plus Battlefield Banner. Add the tank tools the fight needs.
- Passives: keep Punishing Benediction, Fury, Ironclad Defense and Insulting Roar high.
How skill ranks work
Every Templar active skill has five specialties and three slots. Each of the first four Daevanion boards adds one rank to every base active skill.
| Rank | Opens |
|---|---|
| 8 | First slot, three specialties to choose from |
| 12 | Second slot and the fourth specialty |
| 16 | Fifth specialty |
| 20 | Third slot |
NoBS Game Guides keeps skills that only matter for their trigger at rank 12, where they have two specialties.
Creator tip
At some point you will decide if you want 1 or 2 passives for your not so useful skills. Usually most of them will stay at level 12 for 2 passives.
NoBS calls specialties "passives" here. On Corpus and in the game data they are the specialty slots on each active skill.
Active skills
Templar active skills, in priority order
PummelRank first while leveling, then as high as you can
JudgmentAs high as you can. Rank 16 opens Remove cooldown
PunishmentCharge to level 3 and use on cooldown
Warding StrikeUse on cooldown to trigger Judgment
PoachRank 8: move to the target and reset on kill
Shield SmiteRank 12. Triggers Judgment
Shield RushRank 12. Triggers Judgment after Dodge
AnnihilateRank 12. Use whenever it is available
Debilitating SmashRank 12. PvP: -60% Incoming Heal
Flash RampageIgnore early on
Pummel is the first skill NoBS ranks. It hits up to four enemies and costs 120 MP, which Vicious Strike refunds with 100 MP per use.
Creator tip
Pummel is one of the most important Templar abilities so while leveling up make sure you upgrade it first, and later on upgrade it as much as possible.
Judgment is the damage skill the rest of the kit feeds: Shield Smite, Warding Strike, Shield Rush and Doom Shield each trigger it.
| Judgment rank | How you use the triggers |
|---|---|
| Below 16 | Space them out around Judgment's cooldown |
| 16, with Remove cooldown | NoBS fits two or more Judgment casts between each trigger |
For Poach, NoBS takes two rank 8 specialties: moving to a target that cannot be pulled makes it a gap closer on bosses, and the reset on kill chains pulls while farming.
Flash Rampage only hits staggered targets, so NoBS leaves it for later. Debilitating Smash reduces the target's Defense by 25%. Its -60% Incoming Heal specialty is a PvP pick.
Stigmas
Stigmas unlock at level 22 and level separately with stigma points. Each one gains a new effect at ranks 5, 10, 15 and 20.
Templar stigmas for PvE
Doom ShieldEvery build. Triggers Judgment; rank 5 resets Annihilate
Battlefield BannerAttack from Defense. Rank it as high as you can
Shield of ProtectionGuaranteed Block for tank busters
Nezekan's ShieldParty shield from your Max HP
Comrade in ArmsShares a party member's damage with you
Empyrean Lord's PunishmentOpen world, not hard bosses
NoBS says you will probably use Doom Shield in every build. It rushes to the target, triggers Judgment and, from rank 5, resets Annihilate on hit. Madsin names it the Templar stigma that opens the Judgment spam window.
Creator tip
Lastly Doom Shield will also proc Judgement, the main damage ability we were talking about earlier.
NoBS calls Battlefield Banner one of the best stigmas on Templar's kit. It raises your Attack in proportion to your Defense, and its rank 5 and 10 effects add 10% Multi-Hit Chance and 10% Weapon Damage Boost.
The remaining slots depend on the fight:
| Stigma | NoBS uses it for |
|---|---|
| Shield of Protection | A tank buster, a heavy boss hit you cannot dodge. Guarantees a Block |
| Nezekan's Shield | A raid-wide hit. Shields you and party members within 40 m |
| Empyrean Lord's Punishment | Open-world PvE, not hard bosses. Ranged AoE with a stun chance |
Madsin's general rule for every class is to fill the slots after your burst stigma with skills that raise your own or your group's damage, then manual blocks for melee, then personal defensives.
Passives
Templar passives for PvE, with NoBS's notes
Punishing BenedictionDamage passive, keep it very high
FuryParty damage buff on Block
Ironclad DefenseDefense and Endurance, level it a lot
Insulting RoarAttack on Front Attack, level freely
Enhance HealthHP, fine to level early
Block PainDamage tolerance when struck
Warding ShieldLow priority
Guarding SealWorks at low rank
Creator tip
And Fury is one of the most important offensive passives you got. Giving you attack damage boost, PvE damage boost and PvP damage boost both to you and all your party members.
Impact Hit and Survival Willpower are the PvP passives in NoBS's list. Impact Hit helps you land Stun and Knockdown, and Survival Willpower makes you harder to stun.
Leveling rotation and macro
NoBS sets one macro on Judgment and, optionally, a second on another row of skills. You then hold your basic attack key and the macro together. He calls this a decent rotation for the whole leveling phase. He also says it is too early to give an endgame macro, so treat this as a leveling setup.
Charge Punishment
Open with a fully charged Punishment. It grants Executor, which adds 200 Accuracy and 20% PvE Damage Boost.
Trigger Judgment
Use Shield Smite, Warding Strike, Shield Rush or Doom Shield, then cast Judgment.
Fill
Alternate Vicious Strike and Pummel to keep MP up. Put Pummel in a macro so a basic attack fits between skills.
Spend procs
Put Annihilate and Debilitating Smash on one key with your other procs and press them as soon as they light up.
Creator tip
That is why we will set most of our procs on a single key, that way we will spam 1 button and it will execute all of our procs immediately when they are available.
