How to Fish: Blue Shark bait and combat preparation

How to catch and fight the Blue Shark

Use the Standard Boss Lure to target the Blue Shark, then keep separation while shooting it. It lunges toward players and deals damage through body contact. Move away before reloading instead of trying to trade hits at close range.

The Blue Shark is a miniboss with 2,300 HP on Default difficulty with one player and a three-minute timer. It has no half-health transformation like the Giant Piranha or Pufferfish.

Which lure should you use?

Blue Shark is the only creature in Standard Boss Lure's catch-selection table. The ordinary Standard Lure can also select it, but shares its table with other creatures. Choose the dedicated lure when your objective is specifically the shark.

The ordinary lure gives the shark roughly 1.45% of its species-selection weight. That is not a promise that 1.45% of all casts produce a landed shark. Active-boss checks and the fishing interaction still apply. The bait and catch-selection guide explains the distinction.

Finish any active boss before trying to summon another. A lack of bites with boss bait can be an encounter restriction rather than proof that you are standing at the wrong spot.

Prepare for contact attacks

Bring a firearm you already have access to. The Pistol and Shotgun are sold from Island 2; the SMG is sold from Island 3.

The shark's attack movement aims toward a nearby living player. Its base contact damage is 36 before difficulty and multiplayer scaling. Watch its body as it moves through the air as well as on the ground: the absence of a fresh midair lunge does not prevent collision damage.

Creating distance is a practical response to those attacks, not a guaranteed no-hit pattern. No fixed rock, boat position or raised platform is established here as a safe spot.

Keep the body if the Grillmaster needs it

The Island 3 Grillmaster accepts Blue Shark as one option in his creature request. It is not the only acceptable species. His Quest: grill request also accepts Goblin Shark. Bring a dead shark that a player has picked up, then take the lighter he offers to unlock use of the grill.

For that request, keep the defeated creature. The Blue Shark does not use the major bosses' separate Shell, Skeleton or Fin trophy hand-ins.
