How to Fish boss lures: prices and where to buy

By CorpusPublished Written for v1.0.12

Dazed Games; source-model render by Corpus

Use a boss lure for its listed miniboss, and keep the special quest bait or creature body for the next main encounter. Standard Lure and Standard Boss Lure are different purchases. The same distinction applies to the Professional and Scientific pairs.

Purchasable boss lures

LurePriceShop islandsEligible catch
Beginner Boss Lure$402, 3, 4, 5Sunfish 50%, The Old Pike 50%
Standard Boss Lure$2803, 4, 5Blue Shark 100%
Professional Boss Lure$1,2004, 5Tuna 100%
Scientific Boss Lure$5,8005Goblin Shark 100%

Island 2 is Forest, Island 3 is Desert, Island 4 is Rocks and Island 5 is Volcano. The table identifies shops, not an extra island test in the ordinary catch selector. Use the map for the seller's position.

All four boss lures have a 100% consumption setting when used. Prepare your weapon and clear the active boss before trying to summon another one. A 100% species share means that target is the only eligible selection; it does not mean the encounter can override an existing boss.

Main encounters and their special triggers

EncounterWhat starts itWhere to get or use it
Spider CrabEmpty Beer CanGive Beer to the Lighthouse Keeper, then claim the bait.
Giant PiranhaLeech BaitGive three Leeches to the Swamp Daughter, then claim the bait.
PufferfishCarrotDeliver one accepted endangered creature on Island 3, then claim the Carrot.
AlbatrossAn unheld Tuna in the encounter areaCatch Tuna, then leave its body inside the Island 4 trigger while no boss is active.
Bowhead WhaleFish BucketGive five accepted creatures to the Whale Scientist, then claim the bait.
Mutated Bowhead WhaleA dead normal whale in the volcano triggerRelease the dead Bowhead Whale unheld in the final encounter area, with no active boss.

Bowhead Whale is a miniboss in the source classification. It appears in this route table because its body leads to the final main boss. There are five main bosses and six minibosses in the journal, not six main bosses.

The game also has a $350 Coconut, sold on Island 3. Its pool is 100% Bing Bong, an accepted catch for the Carrot request. It does not directly summon Pufferfish: kill and pick up Bing Bong, complete the hand-in, then claim and use Carrot.

Common wrong-lure purchases

TargetReliable targeting purchasePurchase that causes confusion
SunfishBeginner Boss Lure, 50%Beginner Lure has only about 1.75% Sunfish.
The Old PikeBeginner Boss Lure, 50%Ordinary Pike in other pools is a different journal entry.
Blue SharkStandard Boss Lure, 100%Standard Lure has only about 1.45% Blue Shark.
TunaProfessional Boss Lure, 100%Professional Lure has only about 1.28% Tuna.
Goblin SharkScientific Boss Lure, 100%Scientific Lure has no Goblin Shark entry.

Use the name and price shown by the purchase prompt. Internal scene names such as "Soap" or "Professional Lure" are not what the purchase handler uses as the final bait label. The full pool and stock tables use the resolved bait records.

The lure worked, but the next island did not unlock

A kill and a passage reward are separate events. Keep the dropped Shell, Skeleton, Fin or Head requested by the relevant NPC, deliver it and take the offered keys or coordinates. The island progression guide links every required hand-in.

For a specific fight, use the Sunfish, Old Pike, Blue Shark, Tuna or Goblin Shark guide. Miniboss kills complete their Drip journal records automatically, but they do not satisfy the main-boss timer check for Easy.
