How to Fish Goblin Shark guide: lure and combat

Dazed Games

Buy the $5,800 Scientific Boss Lure on Island 5 to catch Goblin Shark. Its pool contains only this miniboss. The cheaper Scientific Lure catches ordinary fish and cannot summon it.

Check the purchase before spending

Scientific Lure costs $500 and selects Anglerfish, Blobfish, Stonefish, Oarfish or Superdwarf Fish. It has no Goblin Shark weight. The $5,800 purchase must be Scientific Boss Lure.

The game displays the bait's localized name and its actual cost on the purchase prompt. Scene-object labels in external data dumps are not a reliable substitute for that prompt. The complete bait table separates the two pools.

Finish any active boss encounter before using the lure. Boss lures are consumed on use; prepare the fight before spending one.

Expect pursuit and contact damage

Goblin Shark steers toward a living player both near surfaces and while airborne. Its source configuration allows jumping from water and checks for a nearby target every five seconds. It does not have a verified safe lava-jumping pattern or a scripted jaw weak point in this controller.

Use a ranged weapon and keep room to move when it closes in. Stay clear of the body during reloads. Its half-second contact-damage cooldown can punish staying in contact, although it does not mean an attack lands exactly twice every second.

The SMG, Sniper Rifle and Assault Rifle are all sold on Island 5. Availability does not establish a best weapon; choose one you can use consistently against the moving target. See weapon and attachment purchases before starting the timer.

Finish the collection entry, then return to the whale route

A Goblin Shark kill records both its normal and Drip journal entries. No separate rare variant is required for Fishipedia. Its body also qualifies as a miniboss for Competitive eating.

Goblin Shark does not drop the final Whale Fin and is not the boss required for Handyman. To finish the game, follow the Whale Scientist's Fish Bucket request and final whale walkthrough.

If you are preparing a Bean attempt, leave optional journal hunts such as this one for a collection save. They spend time and money without advancing the required final hand-in.
