How to Fish: Get the Whale Scientist's Fish Bucket

Quick steps

1. 1 Collect five eligible creatures

   Bring five ordinary catches, such as Bluegill, Bowlfish or Seahorse. Each must be dead and must have been held by a player.

2. 2 Deliver them to the Whale Scientist

   Find the Whale Scientist on Island 5 and hand them in for his Quest: bait request. You can use five of the same eligible species.

3. 3 Take the Fish Bucket

   After all five hand-ins, claim the offered Fish Bucket. This is the bait for the Bowhead Whale.

Which five creatures should you bring?

Use eligible catches you already have. You do not need five different species or a rare catch. Bluegill, Bowlfish and Seahorse all qualify, and Standard Lure can catch them. It is sold at the Island 5 Standard Lure purchase point.

The count advances for each accepted creature. Five Bluegills work just as well as a mixture of these fish.

Why won't the Scientist accept an item?

His request requires creatures. A loose trophy, bait or other item will not count. Boss creatures excluded from ordinary selling also do not qualify, so use one of the ordinary fish above if you are unsure.

An eligible creature must be dead and previously held by a player. If a catch is refused, check those conditions before going fishing again. Return to the Scientist after preparing it.

Do you throw the Fish Bucket into the volcano?

Use the Fish Bucket as fishing bait to catch the Bowhead Whale. The Scientist wants you to defeat that whale and put its body into the volcano.

That is the next quest. First take the bucket he offers; handing over five creatures alone does not equip the reward.
