Aion 2 pet guide: Pet Insight and Genus Insight explained

TL;DR

  • Pets are mounts you collect by gathering the Souls monsters drop. More Souls raise that pet's Pet Insight, up to level 3 on global.
  • Pet Insight unlocks the pet's functions and its small owned stats. It also feeds Genus Insight.
  • Genus Insight is a separate system: five boards (Cogni, Fera, Natura, Varian and Special) with nine lines each that you reroll for stats. This is where the real power is.
  • Don't lock any Genus line until that board reaches Insight level 10. Rerolling is what levels the board, and level 10 rolls the best grades.
  • Then reroll Line 4 first. It holds the big offensive stat, and which stat that is depends on the genus.

Three separate systems

Pets come with three kinds of progress, and creators use the names loosely. In the game they are:

SystemWhat raises itWhat it gives
Pet collectionOwning more petsMilestone rewards such as Soul Crystals
Pet InsightCollecting more Souls of one petThat pet's functions and owned stats
Genus InsightPet Insight level-ups and Genus Insight AnalysisNine rerollable stat lines per genus

The Pets menu opens through a main story quest: Quest: All Geared Up for Elyos and Quest: Gathering Essentials for Asmodians.

Collecting pets and Pet Insight

You get a pet by killing monsters and collecting the Souls they drop. The game describes pets as mostly mounts, with extra effects depending on their type. Our data lists 206 pets:

GenusPets
Fera65
Natura48
Varian45
Cogni41
Special7

Collecting more Souls of the same pet raises its Pet Insight. Each level unlocks a pet function and raises the pet's owned stats, as on Kerubar:

Pet InsightFunction it unlocksKerubar's owned stats
1Riding10 HP
2Mount Glide20 HP, 1 Critical Hit
3Transform30 HP, 2 Critical Hit, 1 Might

Creator tip

Pet levels are maxed at three, we knew that already. That lines up with what we were told for global changes.

Once a pet is at its highest Insight level, further Souls for it turn into Soul Crystals of its genus. You spend those on Genus Insight.

The pet collection pays out as your pet count grows:

Pets ownedReward
5, then every 10 up to 200100 Soul Crystals
Every 50th pet10 Empathy Candy instead

The game lists milestones up to 500 pets, but only the ones up to 200 are reachable with the pets in our data.

Genus Insight

Each genus has its own Insight board. A board unlocks when you own one mount of that genus, then levels from 1 to 10. Two things give it EXP: a Pet Insight level-up on a pet of that genus, and every Genus Insight Analysis you run on it. Special pets can only gain EXP through analysis.

Lines and analysis

Each board has nine lines. Line 1 opens at Insight level 1, Line 2 at level 2 and so on, so all nine are open at level 9.

An analysis rerolls the unlocked lines. Each one costs 4 Soul Crystals, either of that genus or universal ones, plus 1,000 Kina. You can lock a line you want to keep, but each extra locked line costs more: the lock costs go from 8 crystals and 2,000 Kina for the first up to 396 crystals and 99,000 Kina.

Grades rise with Insight level

The higher the board's Insight level, the better the grades it can roll. In the game data:

Insight levelBest grade that can roll
1 to 3Rare
4 to 6Epic
7 and 8Unique
9Heroic, 1% chance
10Heroic, 5% chance

At level 10 the chances are 20% Common, 30% Rare, 30% Epic, 15% Unique and 5% Heroic.

When to lock

Both aLuckyRO and Kanon say the same thing: don't lock anything until the board is at level 10. Locking makes each analysis cost more, and those early analyses are what level the board. A stat you lock at level 4 will be worse than what level 10 can roll.

Creator tip

Don't lock the stats for this board until you reach your max level.

aLuckyRO · Watch at 26:56

At level 10, lock the most important line first and build from there.

Creator tip

So, the idea is to get the most important stat fast, and then we go from there.

Which lines to aim for

The Genus stats on global are not the same as in Korea. Anders found that offensive stats are missing from several lines, so Genus guides made for the Korean servers don't carry over. The targets below come from Kanon's global Handbook and TheWhelps, and the stat pools match the global game data.

Line 4 first. It holds each board's big offensive stat. Kanon's pick per genus:

GenusLine 4Line 7
CogniCritical Damage BoostDamage Tolerance
FeraWeapon Damage BoostDamage Tolerance
NaturaPvE Damage BoostPvE Damage Tolerance
VarianFront or Back Damage BoostPvE Damage Tolerance
SpecialDouble ChanceDamage Tolerance

TheWhelps takes PvE Damage Boost on Line 4 if you only play PvE, and Damage Boost if you also play PvP, on boards that offer them. On Special, he takes Double Chance and would keep a 3% Back Attack Damage Boost roll.

The other lines:

LinesTargetNotes
1 and 5Max Attack (up to 20 at the top grade) or Attack Bonus (up to 16)Both creators prefer Max Attack. TheWhelps keeps a near-max roll if it shows up while he is still fishing for Line 4
3, 6 and 9Accuracy (up to 40) or Critical Hit (up to 30), until you reach what your content needsKanon takes Power Shard Damage Bonus once capped. TheWhelps balances the other stat with Soul Binding
7Any defensive lineKanon names Damage Tolerance or PvE Damage Tolerance
2 and 8Mostly defensive statsKanon skips them as not worth the crystals. TheWhelps takes any HP increase roll and moves on

Kanon upgrades in this order: Line 4, Lines 1 and 5, Lines 6 and 9, Line 7, then Lines 2 and 8.
