Aion 2 Chanter PvE build: skills, stigmas and rotation
NCSOFT / AION 2 official Steam screenshots
TL;DR
- This is aLuckyRO's early-game build for players who have just finished leveling. It plays Chanter as a damage dealer and leaves the healing to a Cleric when there is one.
- Rank Onslaught, Rushing Smash, Recuperation and Spinning Strike to 12, and push Dark Crush to 16 so it loses its cooldown.
- Pick MP specialties early. Onslaught's extra MP and Incandescent Blow's lower MP cost keep you casting.
- Stigmas: max Undefeated Mantra first. Take Sprint Mantra and Marchutan's Wrath to rank 5, and run Ensnaring Mark as the fourth.
- Max Attack Preparation before any other passive.
How skill ranks work
Every active skill has five specialties but only three slots. Ranking a skill does not pick specialties for you; aLuckyRO stresses that you have to choose them by hand.
| Rank | Opens |
|---|---|
| 8 | First slot, three specialties to choose from |
| 12 | Second slot and the fourth specialty |
| 16 | Fifth specialty |
| 20 | Third slot |
Skill points take a skill to rank 10. Each of the first four Daevanion boards adds one more rank to every base active skill, which is how aLuckyRO's fresh character has Dark Crush at 14 with no other help. He mentions Arcana as a further source of skill ranks. The Chanter Daevanion guide shows where those nodes are.
Active skills and specialties
aLuckyRO sorts the actives into three priority tiers. Each note gives the rank to aim for and the specialties he picks.
Chanter active skills, in aLuckyRO's priority order
OnslaughtRank 12: +20% MP restored, then the Spinning Strike cooldown
Dark CrushRank 16: Critical Hit on hit and no cooldown
Spinning StrikeRank 12: -5s cooldown and the fewer-targets damage bonus
Rushing SmashRank 12: Charge Skill and the cooldown reset
RecuperationRank 12: +1 consecutive use and +5% HP restored
Incandescent BlowRank 8: -20% MP consumed
Impactful CrushRank 8: used to make Dark Crush available
Gust RampageRank 8: Absorb HP solo, Restore 120 MP with a Cleric
Tremor CrushRank 8: +10m range
DefianceRank 8: restore 10% HP on use
Onslaught is your auto attack and the first skill to rank. aLuckyRO takes the extra MP at rank 8 because a new character runs out of MP long before it runs out of damage. The rank 12 specialty makes every Onslaught hit shorten Spinning Strike's cooldown. aLuckyRO and Kanon both put that at one second per hit; the game data does not list the value.
Creator tip
And mana is so important. Don't exchange it to the power. If you can get mana, you should have to get mana.
Incandescent Blow has no cooldown and you use it constantly, so the -20% MP specialty drops its cost from 120 to 96 MP. In his earlier build aLuckyRO mentions a later swap to the specialty that deals up to 12% more damage when fewer targets are hit, once MP stops being a problem.
Dark Crush is the skill to get right. aLuckyRO wants it at rank 16 as early as you can:
| Dark Crush rank | aLuckyRO's specialties |
|---|---|
| First slot | Critical Hit on hit |
| 16 to 19 | Critical Hit and no cooldown. Leave out the Piercing Strike chain from rank 12 |
Spinning Strike is the reason to reach rank 12. aLuckyRO skips the Seal specialty that opens there and uses the second slot for -5 seconds cooldown plus the fewer-targets bonus.
Rushing Smash at rank 12 resets its cooldown when it defeats an enemy, so you can dash from mob to mob.
| When | Rushing Smash specialty |
|---|---|
| Your damage is low | Charge Skill |
| One uncharged hit finishes a mob | Chance to trigger Heat Wave Blow |
Recuperation is your only active heal in this build. Gust Rampage only hits Staggered targets, so it matters on bosses. aLuckyRO takes its Absorb HP in hard content or with random groups, and the MP specialty when a Cleric is keeping you alive.
He leaves Heat Wave Blow and Wave Blow out of the PvE build. The exception is hard Nightmare bosses, where he ranks Wave Blow to 12 for the specialty that lowers the target's PvE Damage Boost by 15%.
Stigmas
Stigmas level separately with stigma points and gain a fixed effect at ranks 5, 10, 15 and 20. aLuckyRO builds them for damage and gives Cleric the healing role.
Creator tip
Again, I'm a chanter as an offensive class. If you want to be the healer, just go play the cleric.
Chanter PvE stigmas
Undefeated Mantra raises PvE Damage Boost and PvE Damage Tolerance for you and nearby party members. Its stigma ranks add Critical Hit, Accuracy, Critical Damage Boost and Double Chance.
Creator tip
This is your highest priority skill.
Marchutan's Wrath and Ensnaring Mark are in the build mostly because they make Dark Crush available. aLuckyRO says Ensnaring Mark was a PvP pick until a change to Dark Crush made it worth taking in PvE as well.
Situational stigmas
Chanter stigmas to swap in
| Stigma | aLuckyRO swaps it in |
|---|---|
| Power of the Storm | Near the end of a boss the party is struggling to finish. It needs enchanting before it pays off |
| Obliterate | At rank 1, to help break a boss's Stagger gauge. From his earlier build |
| Impeding Authority, Healing Touch | Party runs without a Cleric, such as the Fire Temple |
| Focused Defense | To block one boss attack that is hard to dodge |
Passives
aLuckyRO says to max Attack Preparation with every source you can find. Wind's Promise pays off because Dark Crush always crits with its specialty.
Chanter passives, in aLuckyRO's order
Attack PreparationFirst and maxed: PvE Damage Boost, Defense and 100 Accuracy
Wind's PromiseCritical Damage Boost and extra damage on Critical Hits
Raging SpellExtra damage to Staggered targets. Pairs with Gust Rampage on bosses
Inspiring SpellCritical Hit and Perfect Chance. Valued for Perfect Chance
Protection CircleMiddle priority
Blessing of LifeMiddle priority. Matters once gear raises your Max HP
Earth's PromiseLowers the target's PvE Damage Tolerance for the whole party. Leftover points
He skips Crossguard and calls Impact Hit a PvP passive.
Rotation
Kanon describes the core cycle as using Spinning Strike, Marchutan's Wrath and Impactful Crush to keep Dark Crush available. aLuckyRO's dummy rotation follows the same pattern.
Open
Charge Rushing Smash into the target.
Spinning Strike, then Dark Crush
Cast Spinning Strike, then use Dark Crush while it is available.
Trigger Dark Crush again
When Dark Crush is ready, cast the next ranged skill that is off cooldown: Marchutan's Wrath, Ensnaring Mark or Impactful Crush. Follow each with Dark Crush.
Fill with Onslaught
Spam Onslaught in between to restore MP and bring Spinning Strike back sooner.
Before Dark Crush reaches rank 16 you have to wait for its cooldown between triggers. After that you can use it after every ranged skill.
Creator tip
But when it get cool down removed, you don't need to control the timing. You're just spamming the Dark Crush.
aLuckyRO does not recommend a macro in your first week. Play by hand until you know your skills, then set one up.
