Aion 2 crafting guide: professions, the gear ladder and what to craft first

TL;DR
- There are five crafting professions: Blacksmithing, Armorsmithing, Handicrafting, Alchemy and Cooking. You craft at the Crafting Table in town.
- Gear climbs a ladder. Each recipe uses the previous Splendent piece, and a successful craft can roll a combo that gives the Splendent version.
- The top crafted pieces on global are the Dragon Lord lines, ending at item level 102 for the Splendent pieces.
- Succession crafting carries your enhancement, amplification and Soul Binding levels to the new piece. If the craft fails you lose the materials but keep the piece you fed in.
- Aragon levels Handicrafting first, because rings, earrings and necklaces fill five slots.
The five professions
Each profession makes a fixed set of items:

Bows and staffs come from Handicrafting, and orbs and spellbooks from Alchemy, so a Ranger or Chanter weapon is not a Blacksmithing job.
How a craft works
You craft at the Crafting Table in the crafting area of each town, and crafting there earns profession EXP. Crafting Merchants in town sell the basic materials; the rest are gathered materials you collect or buy from other players. You cannot do anything else while an item is being made.
- Every craft runs two gauges, success and failure. Each turn fills one of them.
- Your proficiency level against the recipe's level sets how fast the gauges move, so higher mastery means better odds. The recipe window shows the expected chance.
- Whichever gauge reaches its target first decides the result. If a monster hits you during the craft, it fails and the materials are used up.
- A success can trigger a combo, which replaces the normal result with the recipe's better output. For gear that is the Splendent version. Kanon puts the combo chance at 25%.
Creator tip
You have a chance to fail this craft and lose all of your mats. It is not guaranteed just cuz you get this, just cuz you get these mats, it does not mean you're guaranteed this craft.

Moving from Novice to Professional takes an upgrade quest, as it does for gathering.
The gear ladder
Crafted gear is built in steps. Each step takes the Splendent version of the step before, plus new materials. Using a Light-faction bow as the example:

The first three steps only move up if the combo hits. Kanon explains that a non-Splendent result at those steps is a dead end: you can use or sell it, but the next recipe wants the Splendent one.
Every gear slot follows the same pattern, and the Dark faction has the same ladder with different names:

Rings use Sapphire, earrings Diamond and necklaces Ruby.
The Dragon Lord recipes also ask for Radiant gathered materials and Balaur materials made by other crafts, so a top piece pulls from several professions.

Succession crafting
The White and Wise Dragon Lord recipes are succession recipes. You feed the previous tier's Splendent piece in as transfer material, and the game describes what happens:
- The enhancement, amplification and Soul Binding levels of the transfer material carry over to the crafted item.
- The crafted item becomes Soul Bound to the character who crafted it.
- If the craft fails, the materials are lost but the transfer material is kept.
So Kanon's warning about losing everything applies to the materials, not to the gear you feed into a succession recipe.
The data also has a Splendent recipe for each Dragon Lord piece that takes the regular piece as its transfer material, so a missed combo at those steps can still be upgraded with more materials.
Succession crafting is separate from Gear Transfer, which moves enhancement and Soul Binding between two existing items with a Transfer Stone (Unique) (Bound). The Transfer or succession guide compares them.
Anders and TheWhelps both report that Heroic gear is not in the global launch. Every crafted Dragon Lord piece in the global data is Unique.
Which profession to level first
Creator tip
You do Handicrafting because you want to prioritize crafting these legendary accessories first. That will fill out five slots versus just going for your weapon. You'll do that later.

Yes, it's still because the crafted gears give extra line of soul bind. We need extra line of soul bind on weapon and guard.
