How to Fish skins: slot machines and unlocks

By CorpusPublished Written for v1.0.12

Win weapon and boat skins from slot machines, then use the Change Skin action while holding the matching item or driving the boat. Character clothing follows separate unlocks, including achievement rewards. Winning a weapon skin does not unlock an outfit. This guide follows How to Fish 1.0.12's skin and reward logic.

How to start a roll

Kill a Drip creature, pick up its body and drop it into the machine's intake. The machine consumes the item and starts a roll for the player who last held it. Release it into the intake rather than continuing to hold it, and wait until the current roll finishes before trying again.

An ordinary non-Drip fish does not satisfy the creature payment check. This flow spends the body rather than charging the shared money balance. Use a Drip catch you can spare and keep any required quest hand-in aside. The Drip guide explains which lures to use for missing catches.

The intake also accepts eligible non-creature quest items in this build, but sacrificing an unfinished quest's item is a poor default. A dead Drip creature is the straightforward payment to prepare. These conditions are verified in the machine's intake logic.

How a slot-machine roll works

An ordinary roll builds ten positions with seven Common rewards, two Rare rewards and one Legendary reward, then chooses a winning position. That produces rarity chances of 70%, 20% and 10% in the inspected roll logic. It does not guarantee a particular item or an unowned skin.

The machine chooses item types from its own pool. Some machines include the boat and others exclude it, so check what the machine offers before sacrificing a catch. The map helps locate island services. Different reward pools are a reason to use a particular machine; the animation is not a way to choose the winning position.

Winning a Legendary reward triggers GOLD GOLD GOLD for the player who rolled. See the official achievement list and the achievement guide.

Why you can win a duplicate

The roll does not remove skins you already own. If it awards an owned skin, the unlock routine keeps your existing entry. It does not grant another usable copy, substitute a new reward or return the sacrificed item.

Only the player who rolled receives that skin unlock. Friends watching the same animation do not all receive a copy. The reward and save logic stores owned item and boat skins in the local player's save data, separately from the host world's item list.

How to equip a skin

  1. Hold the item whose skin you want to change.
  2. Use the Change Skin action to cycle through your unlocked options for that item.
  3. To change the boat, take the driver's position and use the same action.

Use the binding shown in your controls settings rather than assuming another player's keyboard or controller mapping matches yours. A skin for one weapon does not become an option on every weapon.

If a friend can see a skin on an item, that alone does not prove the friend owns the same unlock. Ownership and the item's currently applied appearance are separate pieces of state. For missing unlocks after changing computers or saves, start with save and Steam Cloud checks.

Character outfits and Bean

Character clothing comes from separate milestones. The achievement system unlocks clothing associated with quest characters, boat upgrades, the grill, casino rewards and completion. Bean is tied to its timed-completion achievement.

Use the game's appearance controls to select unlocked character options. An NPC model appearing in the encyclopedia is not evidence that every part of its appearance is a player reward. The appearance directory distinguishes the game's recorded appearance assets; the Bean guide explains the timed unlock.

Do not confuse slot machines with roulette. Roulette changes the value of wagered items and can destroy them. The slot machine is the skin-reward system.
