Commands
Search console commands by name or description, with their usage and arguments.
Open the console and check command permissions
Enable the console
In the current game, use Enable Console in Gameplay settings. On Steam, the documented alternative is to add -console under Valheim's Properties → General → Launch Options, then launch through Steam.
In a world, press F5, or use the documented controller combination LB + LT + Start. If F5 does nothing, check the console setting, the shortcut you launched and your keyboard's function-key mode. Microsoft Store and Mac App Store launch instructions are in the official console guide. That older guide does not establish PS5 or Switch 2 controls.
Enter help to see available commands. Enter devcommands to toggle developer commands, and read any confirmation the game displays before using cheats.
Admin access is a separate check
A command can require cheats, a network session, the server context or admin permission. Opening the console grants none of those. Supported remote commands are sent to the server, which checks its admin list before executing them. An ordinary joining player cannot make themselves an admin by typing devcommands.
On a dedicated server, follow the official admin-list instructions. Check each command's current flags and response; a locally usable command is not automatically a remotely supported command.
Use the exact arguments
Search below for the command and read its syntax. For spawning, the first argument after spawn is the object identifier, followed by amount, level and optional parameters. Use the exact native identifier from the item or creature reference, rather than its translated display name. Brackets in help text describe parameters; they are not part of the value to enter.
Cheat use, spawned items, world settings and the explicit opt-in affect achievement eligibility. The September hotfix added an opt-in, so a blanket claim that all cheat history permanently prevents every achievement is incomplete.
Match the action to its current command
The current registry uses devcommands, spawn and goto. It does not register imacheater, give or tp as aliases. Older guide years do not change the command for this release.
- Creative building: nocost toggles build costs; fly and debugmode provide separate flight/debug controls. Their server-only flags matter on dedicated servers.
- Teleport: goto takes x and z coordinates. recall brings matching players to you; it is not a command to jump to another player by name.
- Time: time reports the current time; tod sets a time-of-day override from 0 to 1, with -1 restoring normal time-of-day behavior. skiptime advances game seconds. These operations are different.
- Reset: choose the specific operation, such as resetmap for exploration or resetskill for a skill. There is no general
resetcommand in the current registry.
