Best PvP class in Aion 2: what creators say about each class
NCSOFT / AION 2 official Steam screenshots
TL;DR
- No creator names one best PvP class for global. Balance is still changing, and global has fewer offensive stats than Korea, so take Korean results as a reference only.
- For 1v1 and small fights, creators most often name Assassin, Gladiator and Templar. Those three also fill the 1v1 Arena queue, according to Anders.
- For large-scale Abyss fights and sieges, the ranged classes stand out: Ranger, Sorcerer and Spiritmaster.
- Cleric and Chanter are wanted in every group fight. Cleric struggles in 1v1s; Chanter holds up better.
- Anders's safe picks for a mix of PvE and PvP are Gladiator, Templar, Cleric and Chanter.
Start with the caveats
Grobs opens his class video by refusing to crown a winner: the developers are still making major class changes, and nobody knows the global meta yet. Anders adds that global has fewer sources of offensive stats than Korea, which hits Assassin and Sorcerer hardest at launch.
Gear matters more than class in most PvP. Only the Battlefield is equalized. The Arena and the Abyss are not, so a well-geared player beats a better class on worse gear.
Creator tip
On the end of the day, every class in Aion 2 is viable for PvP if you have a good gear and good ping.
Creator views at a glance
| Class | 1v1 and small fights | Large-scale fights |
|---|---|---|
| Gladiator | Strong (Grobs, Anders, SywoGG) | Strong (Grobs) |
| Templar | Strong (Grobs) | Frontline crowd control (Grobs, SywoGG) |
| Assassin | Top three (SywoGG), very dangerous (Grobs) | Harder, needs the right target (Grobs, Society Of Gaming) |
| Ranger | Strong kiter (Grobs), squishy early in the Arena (Anders) | Good (Anders, Grobs) |
| Sorcerer | Vulnerable if caught (Anders, Grobs) | Very good (Anders) |
| Spiritmaster | Strong if it sets up first (Grobs) | Ranged value (Society Of Gaming) |
| Cleric | Hard to win (Grobs) | A must-have (SywoGG, Grobs) |
| Chanter | Competes, hard to kill (Grobs, Anders) | Wanted for stability (SywoGG) |
Gladiator
Gladiator gets the broadest praise. Grobs points to its tankiness, lifesteal, damage and crowd control. SywoGG calls it the most badass class at everything from gathering herbs to PvP. Anders calls it strong in PvE and PvP, forgiving, and one of the safest picks.
Creator tip
Gladiator also has a ton of CC. That makes Gladiator extremely strong in pretty much every type of PvP content.
Templar
Grobs sees two ways to play Templar in PvP: an almost unkillable tank that keeps people under crowd control, or a fully offensive build that kills people itself. He says both work in 1v1s and large-scale fights. SywoGG describes the group role: frontline crowd control and pulls.
Those pulls are Poach, which drags one target in front of you, and the stigma Grapple, which pulls up to four enemies near the target.
Templar PvP control
Assassin
Assassin is the burst class creators link to 1v1s and roaming. Grobs credits its mobility, crowd control, invisibility and burst, but warns that you cannot jump on every class and expect to one-shot it. Large fights are harder for a squishy melee class that has to put itself in danger.
Creator tip
In terms of 1v1 PvP or roaming the abyss, assassin is like one of like in the top three classes.
Anders agrees that Assassin shines in the Arena, open-world PvP and the Abyss, but he would be careful at launch. Much of its power comes from gear and stats global will not have on day one. Both he and Society Of Gaming say it needs low ping.
Its stealth comes from two stigmas.
Assassin stealth
Ranger
Grobs calls Ranger strong in basically every type of PvP. Stuns, snares, knockbacks and mobility let a good Ranger kite an opponent who cannot close the gap. In sieges it attacks from range without throwing itself into the fight.
Anders agrees on large-scale PvP, thanks to its attack speed and ranged skills, but warns that it can feel too squishy in the Arena early on, especially against Chanter and Templar. Society Of Gaming also calls it squishy until it is geared. The Ranger guide covers the class in full.
Sorcerer
Sorcerer trades survival for burst. Grobs lists slows, pulls and a polymorph, Curse: Tree, which turns a target into a tree until it is attacked. If the full rotation lands, the burst is huge. The hard part is setting it up without being interrupted or killed.
Anders, a Sorcerer main, calls it very good in large-scale PvP and vulnerable in the Arena once someone gets on top of you. Society Of Gaming points to Hibernation as its escape: you become immune to damage and status effects, and ending it with Remove Hibernation restores 20% of your max HP.
Spiritmaster
Grobs calls Spiritmaster interesting in PvP. Its Earth Spirit can taunt a player into attacking it, and the game data gives that a 30% chance. With enough cooldown reduction and spirit cycling, he says a good Spiritmaster can almost keep an enemy taunt-locked.
The catch is set-up time. If the Spiritmaster starts the fight on its own terms, it is very hard to deal with. If someone jumps it first, recovering is much harder. Command: Proxy helps it survive by sharing incoming damage with a spirit.
Skills creators mention for ranged PvP
Cleric
Grobs says the Cleric's problem in 1v1s is not damage but the lack of reliable crowd control: it cannot stop an opponent who stays on top of it and heals through lifesteal. In group PvP, a good Cleric can change the outcome of a fight. SywoGG calls it a must-have in PvP, and Anders calls it a staple of PvE and PvP groups.
Creator tip
Group PvP is a completely different story. Here a good Cleric can do unbelievable amount of work and completely change the outcome of a fight.
Chanter
Grobs says Chanter is not one of the strongest duelists but can win plenty of match-ups, and its value rises in group fights, where mantras help the group engage and escape. Anders finds a Chanter extremely difficult to kill and dangerous in smaller fights. SywoGG says its ranged skills make it wanted in group and zerg PvP for the stability it brings.
How to choose
If PvP is your main goal, play the class whose PvP role you want: duelling, frontline control, ranged siege damage or group support. If you also care about PvE, Anders's safe picks are Gladiator, Templar, Cleric and Chanter, because groups always want them. For the full class comparison, read which class to play.
