Valheim Hildir's request: find and return the three chests

By CorpusPublished

Hildir's RequestDungeon and reward spoilers

Quick steps

  1. Find Hildir and use her map

Look for Hildir at her Meadows camp. Interact with the camp's map to mark the dungeons on your map. Their positions depend on your world.

  2. Clear a marked dungeon and collect its chest

Defeat Brenna for the Brass Chest, Geirrhafa for the Silver Chest, or complete the Zil & Thungr encounter for the Bronze Chest. Collect the chest itself. A trophy does not replace it.

  3. Carry the chest back and give it to Hildir

Each chest weighs 200 and cannot pass through an ordinary portal under default world settings. Plan how to get it home before clearing the dungeon. Put the chest on your hotbar and use it while targeting Hildir. She takes the chest and unlocks its goods for everyone in the world. Newly available goods still cost coins.

  4. Return the other two kinds

Choose another marked dungeon when your equipment and food suit its biome. Each chest kind unlocks different goods; you do not need to carry all three chests together or return them in a fixed order.

Which chest comes from which dungeon?

Prepare for the biome as well as its named enemy. Brenna is immune to fire and weak to blunt and frost damage. Geirrhafa is immune to frost and weak to fire. Check the creature pages before choosing weapons or resistance meads; fire damage helps against Geirrhafa but cannot hurt Brenna.

The tower fight continues after you beat Zil & Thungr together. Zil breaks free, and you must defeat him to get the Bronze Chest. Do not leave after collecting Thungr's trophy if Zil is still alive.

Why did the enemy drop no chest?

The dungeon encounters and their raid versions have separate loot. The raid versions of Brenna and Geirrhafa drop trophies without the request chests. The raid version of Zil & Thungr releases a version of Zil without the Bronze Chest. For the chests, clear the marked dungeons. Killing their raid counterparts near your base will not help.

Check the matching creature page's drops and location before searching for a missing chest. Leave inventory space and enough carry capacity to pick up the chest.

Why will Hildir not take another chest?

Each chest kind only needs to be returned once per world. If another player already handed it in, Hildir acknowledges a second copy but does not take it or unlock anything else. You must use the chest on Hildir to hand it in. Selling valuables, offering a trophy or standing nearby with the chest does not count.

Returning a chest makes its associated goods available to buy. It does not put every newly unlocked item into your inventory. Check Hildir's stock table for each item's price and required chest unlock.

Can I use a portal, and will this unlock raids?

The chests are restricted under default portal rules. Check the actual portal and world transport settings before assuming you must sail or that a portal will work. The sailing and portal guide explains the available transport checks.

Chest hand-ins can also make Hildir-related raids eligible under world progression rules. With player-based events enabled, the corresponding checks use that player's known items and defeat progress instead. Unlocking a raid does not make it start immediately. Use the progression and raid tool to compare those settings before deciding when to advance the request.
